  1. a. No, it's not good enough (in his opinion) to live a good and decent life, you must actively seek God's word and try to convert those who don't believe.
    b. According to him you must seek his word and follow it wholeheartedly and accept him truly into his heart, as well as make others convert to God and Jesus.
    C. Nothing because once God choses your fate your bodily constitution doesn't mean anything you will still burn just as much as the ones who have done nothing.
    D. Accept Jesus into your heart and truly follow and believe in God's word.

  2. a. No, Edwards believed that you had to have lead a good and decent life as well as worship and praise the God that holds you over the pit of Hell.

    b. Edwards explains(using metaphors, similes, and imagery) how you have to believe in God as well as worship and praise Him so no, believing is not enough.

    c. Edwards uses "You are kept out of Hell, but do not see the hands of God under you" as imagery to compare it to real life conditions such as good health and the care of your life so that the people could understand it better.

    d. Live a good decent life, do little wrong and much right. Edward says we should not provoke God for He holds us over the pit of Hell and we will all be Damned if we provoke Him with our sins.

  3. A. No according to Jonathan Edwards’s beliefs, being a good honest person doesn't get you into heaven, you must have a personal relationship with God. Just because you're a good person doesn't mean that God thinks you are. God doesn't want a good person he wants a person who is saved. You cannot appease God with good actions.
    B. No just because you believe in God doesn't mean you're automatically saved. You must first openly confess to acknowledging God as your personal savior. Anyone can know that God is real but one must first know for themselves that God saved them.
    C. According the text on page 47, one’s body cannot keep them from going to hell no matter how good it looks or how good they took care of it. Although the body is a temple, keeping your appearance in check doesn’t mean much to God, he looks into the heart and mind.
    D. According to Sinners in the hands of a Angry God, the one thing we have to do is be saved. That is the only way to avoid being damned to hell. This means we must tell God our confessions and prevent ourselves from sinning as much as we can. Also you must lead a pure life which is different from a “good” life. A pure life means no sin and a relationship with God. You must have this to avoid going to hell.

B.) According to Edwards it’s not enough to believe in God, you need to believe in everything that God says and do everything he asks for, and lastly follow his word.
C.) Having a good physical constitution helps in salvation because you can preserve yourself and take care your body.
D.) Accept Jesus Christ and everything he does, that is one thing that one must do to avoid eternal damnation.

  5. A. No, living a good and decent life is okay, but having God as a main part of your life. You need to have him as a main priority also. You need to make decisions and be in the Church. You need to go down a Christ-like path and try to rid yourself of any sin.
    B. Not necessarily, you can believe in God and be a Christian and still commit unforgivable sin. This question and the first are interchangeable; you have to find a happy medium in both. In making correct decisions and also believing in God, you’re doing what’s right.
    C. In having a good constitution, you’re caring for yourself and your own life and he said to not look at God’s hand and decision, but look at what you’re doing now and the state that you happen to be in now.
    D. He believes the same hands that can cast you into the fire are the same ones that can pull you away from it. In order to avoid eternal damnation, you have to acknowledge his wrath and be determined to change His opinion of you.

    - No, because one must be rededicated and reborn in God's grace.
    b.
    - No, one must be dedicated and have more than belief.
    c.
    - Having a good physical condition indeed meant nothing. We were'nt sensible when it came to seeing God's hand and how he kept people out of hell. Your physical condition is just being compared to evceryday life.
    d.
    - To avoid total damnation one must be born again, raised from a dead state to a new one, and have experienced light and life.

  7. a. No according to Edwards you have to be reborn through the blood of Christ. Although, you are a good person you are not saved and without being saved you can’t get into heaven.
    b. No you have to follow his word and be reborn again through the blood of Christ. It’s simply not enough to believe if you do not follow God, according to Edwards.
    c. It’s a temple, but it’s rather your heart and mind God looks into. Your appearance won’t keep you out of hell according to Edwards.
    d. Being saved and living a pure life. Following the word of God doing anything he asks of you, worshiping him.

  8. A. No it is an enough to lead a good and decent life because you could have a good personality and be thought of as a nice person but you could also sin and do wrong.

    B. Yes it is but also no its not enough to believe in God, because your putting your trust and heart into God without doing no wrong but sometimes you tend to make mistakes, and everyone makes mistakes but you still have to no where you came from & you no what is considered sinning & you do it anyway doesn’t mean you don’t believe in God, but most Christians that believe in God do not Sin because of how strong the connection is.

    C. If you have a good physical constitution then people are going to see you as not doing any wrong. They feel that if you have a good physical constitution & you’re saved that you cant go to hell or suffer because you do everything by the book.

    D. One thing you must do to avoid Eternal Damnation is to get saved, & devote your life to God. & you must do no wrong & have a good physical constitution.

  9. a. According to Edwards, is it enough to lead a good and decent life?
Edward believes that it is not enough to lead a decent life because that does not insure your salvation, to him just being nice is not enough to prevent God’s wrath. He believes that it is only God’s grace that is protecting the sinners from hell.

    b. Is it enough to believe in God?
To Edwards it is not enough to just believe in God, he believes that it is wrong to sin and all sinners are going to hell. In his church Edwards would often call out the people of his church by name for their sins.

    c. What role does having a good physical constitution play in salvation?
Edwards says in Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God that your care for your own life and preservation is nothing compared to what would happen if God were to remove his hand from the world; and if God were to remove his hand the things that you do to preserve yourself would not help you to stand any more than the air.

    d. What is the one thing that one must do to avoid eternal damnation?
To Edwards the only thing that will keep anyone from being eternally damned is being totally and completely devoted to God and God’s will.

  10. A.) According to Edwards’ beliefs, it is not enough to lead a good and decent life because that does not ensure ones salvation of the soul. The mind of oneself may not relate to the mind of another, but when compared to God, ones word will never compare.

B.) According to the sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”, it is a splendid belief to believe in God, but just believing in God, does not mean he or she may live right unto the Lord.

C.) Those that are fit are more likely to resist worldly and human temptations. Most Religious people will try to obtain there Salvation and live there life under what they and there religion believe in.

D.) What one must do to avoid eternal damnation is to avoid all the harmful temptations that could possibly ruin oneself physical constitution and to also focus solely on God to maintain a religious relationship and to keep and maintain a soul of Salvation.

    1. Very good, I was waiting for this type of response. Health and salvation are intimately connected. We see this in Jesus´ ministry, He did more healing then preaching. See a book called, "Counsels on Health" By E.G White. Very deep discourse on health and spirituality.

  11. A.) According to Edwards’ beliefs, to lead a good and decent life does not ensure ones salvation.

B.) In relations to the sermon, Sinners in ‘’The Hands of an Angry God’’, it’s great to believe in God. To the puritans believing would get you a step closer to salvation, but only chosen ones were saved in the name of God.

C.) Having a good physical constitution was in fact a great thing. The main reason why is, because most people who are fit will most likely avoid temptation and focus more on there religion.

D.) One must over look all temptations of the world, and put all of ones focus on God. “The lord is my shepherd and I shall not want”. In other words you shall not focus on any thing other than God. The one thing that means the most is being born again in the blood of the lamb.

    1. A healthy temple is needed in order to fight effectively. That's why God gave us health laws in the bible, starting with the Edenic diet in Gen, then the falling of the manna in the Exodus, and In Dan 1 we see health principles being voiced by God.

  12. a.)According to Edwards it is not enough to lead a good and decent life instead you have to be saved. In the text it says that “And they have no interest in any Mediator, there are no means within reach that can be any security to them.” which means that just because you are living a good and decent life doesn’t mean that its enough to stop you from going to hell.

b.)No it is not enough to just believe in God. In the text it says “So that, thus it is natural men are held in the hand of God, over the pit of hell” which means that people who have not been reborn are held in the hand of God over the pit of hell.

c.)The role a good physical constitution has in salvation is none at all according to Edwards. Edward states that having a good state of your bodily constitution, care of your own life, and the means you use for your preservation are nothing if God should remove you from his hand.

d.)One thing that one must do to avoid eternal damnation is to be reborn again (saved). Basically the whole point of the sermon was to use figures of speech to compare God’s wrath to ordinary, everyday things to put fear in these people so that they could get saved.

  13. A. No he believed that if you not saved and not living a good and decent life that you are going to hell in the text it say`s that they have no interest in any Mediator, there are no mean within reach that can be security to them.
B .No it is not enough to believe in god because the people who are sinner was known as natural men’s they was in god hand dangling over the pits over hell. The mean of this is that you can believe in god but if not reborn
you`re dangling over the pits of hell.

    C. Yes having a good physical constitution play apart in salvation because in the text it say`s in the text that but looks at other things, as the good state of your bodily constitution , your care of your own life ,and the means you use for you own preservation. This mean have a good perseverance can releasing you from dangling over the pits of hell.
.D.One thing that you must do to avoid eternal damnation is reborn or saved. Edward use figures of speech to put fear in our heart so we can become saved and avoid being damnation for eternal.

  14. (A)No its not enough to lead a good and decent life because you could have a good personality and have a good heart but you can also make the wrong choices and break sins

(B)Yes it is enough to believe in god but even though if a person makes a mistake god is always there to forgive that person

(C)Having a good physical constitution will make you a good person and will not have no more influence to uphold you and having a good constitution will also keep you out of hell.

(D)One thing one must do to avoid eternal domination is for them to get saved and have a good constitution to reflect upon themselves

  15. a.
It is not enough to lead good and decent life because you can be that nicest, sweetest, kindness person but as a sinner it your biggest downfall. You are missing the big part of the puzzle and that is being saved. Only by god’s grace that you have not harsh reality like is says in the book, “You have offended Him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince; and yet it is nothing but His hand holds you from falling into the fire every moment”.

    b.
It is not just enough to believe in god. You need to be saved so that you won’t land yourself into the fire pits of hell. It’s a good that you believe in god but you need to take it to the next level get saved. Like is says in the book, “the use of this awful subject may be for awaking unconverted persons in this congregation. This that you have heard is the case of every one of you has heard is the case of every one of you that are out of Christ. That world of misery, that lake of burning brimstone, is extended abroad under you. There is the dreadful pit of the glowing flames of the wrath of God; there is hell’s wide gaping mouth open; and you have nothing to stand upon, nor anything to take hold of; there is nothing between you and hell but the air; it is only power and mere pleasure of god that holds you up.”

    c.
Living a good life and worshiping god play a role in your salvation. Showing that you believe in him. Like in the book it says, “You probably are not sensible of this; you find you are kept out of hell, but do not see the hand of god in it; but look at other things, as the good state of your bodily constitution, your care of your own life, and the means you use for your own preservation.”

    d.
One must worship and not be a sinner so that do to avoid eternal damnation. Being a sinner is not that good for because you are in a world of trouble being a sinner. For example like it says in the book, “O sinner! Consider fearful danger you are in: it is a great furnace of wrath, a wide and bottomless pit , full of the fire of wrath, that you are held over in the hand of the God, whose wrath is provoked and increased as much against you, as against many of the damned in hell.”

    1. Being healthy, in my estimation, is not merely to keep one out of hell. Rather, it is faithfully bringing your body under the subjection to His will in order for Him to be glorified in us. One of the ways He creates a clean heart in us and renews a right Spirit is through a healthy life. But we must remember, that many healthy people will being going to hell if they don't surrender to God. Maybe health just makes the Christian walk more bearable and manageable ?

  16. a. No, Edward believed that living a good decent life does not ensure ones salvation. He believed that one must be reborn in God's grace.
    b. Edward didn't believe it was enough just to believe in God he believes that you need to follow God's word.
    c. Having a good physical constitution in the text doesn't mean anything because once God removes His hand having a good physical constitution isn't going to stop you from falling.
    d. In Edwards sermon the one thing we have to do is be saved, that is the only way to avoid being damned to hell.

  17. a. Not really, living a good and decent life is not enough. Edward said “Now they see that those things, on which they depended for peace and safely, were nothing but thin air and empty shadows.” It made me think that living a good and decent life is not enough.

b.Edward didn't think it was enough to believe in God, I think he want people do more than believe. He wants them to follow God's words, worship, and praise God.

c.Having a good physical constitution doesn't help that much in salvation, even if you live a good and decent life. It mostly dependent on your fate, you did good or bad. Edward said “if God should withdraw his hand, they would avail no more to keep you from falling, than the thin air to hold up a person that is suspended in it.” Even if you have good constitution, caring for you life and own preservation, it won't hold you up.

d.Believe in God and Jesus, follow their words, worship, and praise them. Live a great life, and confess your sins, you are forgiving if you do.

  18. a) No because in his opinion you have to do what the Bible says and help teach others who doesn't know about the word of the Lord.

    b) It is not enough to believe in God, you have to read his word, learn it, study it, cherish it,love it, and teach it. You have to try to live by it.

    c) There is nothing to do about it, God knows your fate before your even born. You can change your mind and decisions but no matter what you fate is already set.

    d) Believe, love, trust, and follow Jesus and God because one died for your sins and the other has your fate in his hand, they will help and love you your whole life.

  19. a) In his opinion you have to follow the Bible and what it says so no.

    b) No it isn't enough to believe in God you have to love and trust him also.

    c) It has nothing to do with it you can be sick and poor and still be following the word of the Bible, God doesn't care if your rich, poor, dressed, or not dressed because no of that will mean anything after you die only thing that will is if you Believe in God and Jesus and you tried and or did follow the Bible.

d)Love God and Jesus with all of your heart, mind, body, and soul.
